Your Extra Innings is your weekly source for all things retirement.
Whether you’re approaching retirement, newly retired, or have been retired for a few years, Your Extra Innings will be a great way for you to keep up with the latest news and information that’s swimming through the web about this time of our lives.
In baseball, usually after 9 innings, you know the winner. But sometimes, if the game is tied up after 9 innings, we go to extra innings and the game takes on a new level of excitement. It’s a whole new ball game where every pitch and swing of the bat is thrilling. This is why I called this newsletter “Your Extra Innings”. You’ve played your 9 innings and now you move into a new and exciting part of your life.
After a great career, I’ve spent the last 10 years being sort-of-retired. The first 5 years were being semi-retired working 6 months a year and having fun the other 6. The second 5 years I’ve been fully retired.
I used my free time to study the experts in the retirement / baby-boomer field and explored the many resources that are out there to help me succeed through this chapter in my life. This is a picture of my retirement related library. On top of the pile is my Kindle which has another 23 eBooks and research papers stored on it.
Every week I will share what I’ve learned and provide you with tips, tools, and some knowledge that will help you design your retirement years on your terms. I will cover a mix of retirement news, planning, 2nd acts, working, finances, health and fitness, technology, learning, interests and activities, and anything else I find on the web that I think you may find helpful, interesting or just plain entertaining.
YOUR MONEY MATTERS
Bonds, I-Bonds
You would have to be a hermit, living on a remote mountain top, with no cell service to not be aware of what the stock market is doing, inflation, supply issues, oh, and a war. The hits to our retirement savings keep on coming.
It would be nice to have an opportunity to make even small gains to lessen the blow.
We’re taking advantage of the US Treasury’s I-Bonds this year and will again in January. The current interest rate through October is 9.62% which is pretty good compared to what banks are paying. This rate is calculated based on the rate of inflation which is going to remain high for a while.
Yahoo Money has a nice article that details why it may be a good idea for you.
(BTW, I’m not a financial advisor and don’t even play one on TV. I’m just sharing my experience. Please speak to your financial advisor before doing anything.)

The 10,000 Step Scam
Well not a scam, but getting in your 10,000 steps a day became a sacred rule that started as a marketing gimmick. This article sets things straight and gives you solid recommendations.
Do we really need to walk 10,000 steps a day?

Tim Ferriss’ List Of Favorite Documentaries
Tim is one of my favorite authors and podcasters. His most recent books “Tribes of Mentors” and “Tools of Titans” provides choice nuggets from his podcast interviews with high level people like Hugh Jackman, Brene Brown, Malcolm Gladwell, Maria Sharapova, Daymond John, and Marc Andreessen to start. My top documentary picks are:
Sour Grapes - All about counterfeit premium wines and the guy who did it.
The King of Kong - The story about the assault on the Donkey Kong record that stood for 25 years.
David Hockney: The Art of Seeing - Britain’s greatest living artist is interviewed and watching Hockney create is wonderful.

Hubble Says “Happy Birthday”
We’ve seen the amazing images from space the Hubble satellite has sent back to earth. To make us feel like we’re getting something in return for the billions being spent on our space efforts, NASA has created a cool website that allows for to see what Hubble saw on your birthday. Remember to make a wish before blowing out your super-nova.

A QUOTE TO CHEW OVER
“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, even you” Anne Lamott
What did you think? Any suggestions? Did I mess anything up?
This is amazing John, liked the comment by Anne Lamont.
Thanks Joe. Unplugging is a good thing now a days. I promise to stay clear of that Yankee-RedSox thing.
